The Recognition and Escalation of Deteriorating Patients (REDP) project, led by the critical care outreach teams at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, has been shortlisted for two HSJ Patient Safety Awards.
The REDP project supports early recognition and escalation when a patient’s condition is deteriorating, helping to increase the chances of survival and recovery.
The project has been shortlisted for the prestigious Patient Safety Team of the Year award, for its outstanding improvements in patient safety. It has also been nominated for the Deteriorating Patient and Rapid Response Initiative of the Year.
Maria Pena, Advanced Clinical Practitioner and project lead at Chelsea, said:
“I am delighted to see the hard work of the critical care outreach and ward nursing teams recognised. I also want to acknowledge that without the engagement and help of our senior leaders in embedding the new initiatives as well as the support from our charity, CW+, this project would not have been possible. Well done to everyone involved.”
Leigh Paxton, Matron at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, added:
“It is fantastic to be shortlisted by the HSJ Patient Safety Awards for the REDP project and to have the teams’ outstanding achievements recognised in this way.”
The HSJ Patient Safety Awards help drive improvements in culture and quality across the NHS. These awards recognise and reward the hard-working teams and individuals who, in these times of austerity, pay restraints and workforce shortages, are striving to deliver improved patient care
