This year we launched a Christmas volunteering campaign to encourage volunteers to support our patients and staff over the busy Christmas period. We had a fantastic response from volunteers who gave a combined total of more than 90 hours across both sites. They supported a wide range of activities from helping out at children’s Christmas parties to assisting at our Christmas fairs. They even helped on Christmas Day, bringing good cheer to our patients and helping during mealtimes.
Moreover, our volunteers make a difference each and every day for the NHS—as part of the Daily Mail’s HelpForce campaign, Trust volunteers Emmy Webb and Tess Ostrom shared their stories and talked about their journeys to volunteering, regularly giving up their personal time to support and work alongside dedicated healthcare service professionals.
We are so proud of the NHS volunteers who support the NHS and our Trust over the Christmas period and throughout the year.
One of our volunteers Emmy Webb, an author and scriptwriter, talks about using her own experience of grief to make a difference to older people in the hospital.
She said: “I now volunteer at Chelsea and Westminster for three hours a week and I really love it. I help out on an elderly care ward—many of the patients have dementia but what I’ve found is that they love to have someone to sit with them and listen to them.”
Tess Ostrom, local resident and volunteer, said: “There were so many people without visitors, so it was nice to touch base with them as I visited four wards.”
We're honoured to have such dedicated volunteers—find out more about how to become a volunteer at the Trust.
