Sexual Health colleagues present at the STI HIV 2023 World Congress
01 August 2023
We are proud to share that colleagues from our sexual health services were invited to the STI HIV World Congress 2023 in Chicago to present their ground breaking and innovative work to an international and expert audience.
Zoch Nwaosu, Health Adviser at 10 Hammersmith Broadway and Dwayne-Wilson Hunt, Charge Nurse at the John Hunter and Kobler Clinic, were invited to present their poster on the excellent work they do for the Racially Minoritised Communities Special Interest Group in BASHH (British Association of Sexual Health and HIV). Dwayne-Wilson shared his presentation on racial inequalities within sexual health alongside Zoch who also presented on the 'Psychology of Sexual Health' during the STIIX: Global STI Research and Benchmarking pre-conference session.
Dwayne-Wilson explains, “People from racially minoritised communities experience disparities when receiving care within the health service. We presented our works to show that this has been highlighted within BASHH and the need to improve patient outcomes in sexual health & HIV. I believe the time is now to make change, improve patient care and make it equitable for all”.
Zoch adds to this further sharing, “Black men represent an underserved population with greater sexual health needs. It is therefore vital that we have a good understanding of their experiences and behavioural motivators to provide appropriate services that meet their needs. This study has done so amongst Black heterosexual men in London, however there is much more work to be done to ensure services meet the needs of all underserved populations”.
Sophie Jones, Service Manager for Sexual Health London (SHL) E-service and Sara Day, Clinical Lead for SHL E-service, were also invited to present two posters on the SHL E-service, which included a 5 year look back at the service and outcomes. Sophie Jones also presented at the congress "A Hybrid Healthcare Solution for Sexual Health" focusing on the clinical management of the Chelsea and Westminster Foundation Trust (CWFT) SHL E-service, which is the largest publicly funded remote sexual health testing service in the world, clinically led by CWFT.
Sophie shares “SHL is so much more than a testing service - thanks to our dedicated in-house clinical team it offers treatments, contraception, signposting, safeguarding and so much more. I feel so proud to have been given the opportunity to show to a global audience what a spectacular achievement SHL is and continues to be. I hope by presenting our work it encourages the reproduction of such services across the world as it is a brilliant way to expand access to testing and to sexual health care for all”
Well done to everyone who presented.
