North West London AcuPebble Project wins HSJ Award 2024

25 November 2024

Congratulations to the team involved in the North West London AcuPebble Project, the pathway for straight-to-test obstructive sleep apnoea diagnosis, which won the Modernising Diagnostics Award category in the HSJ Awards 2024.

Congratulations to the team involved in the North West London AcuPebble Project, the pathway for straight-to-test obstructive sleep apnoea diagnosis, which won the Modernising Diagnostics Award category in the HSJ Awards 2024.

AcuPebble is a user-friendly wearable medical device for the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnoea. It produces an automated report to inform clinical decisions about treatment and the best patient pathway, meaning staff no longer have to do this manually, which previously took over 30 minutes per patient.

The project was created to tackle pre-existing problems with the diagnostic pathway including high cost, long waiting lists of up to 2 years, uncomfortable procedures, and multiple hospital visits for patients. The new innovation is reducing hospital pressures and improving outcomes for patients.

AcuPebble has been led by Dr Dexter Wiseman, Clinical Lead for this project at the Trust who has worked closely with colleagues at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, and within less than a year, the new pathway has demonstrated exceptional clinical, health equity, workforce, and sustainability outcomes.

Well done to everyone involved, with thanks to CW+ who funded the devices, and to CW Innovation for supporting on this project.
