Our commitment to becoming an HIV Confident Trust

01 December 2024

We are committed to becoming an HIV Confident Trust, reaffirming our dedication to promoting an inclusive, stigma-free environment for employees and patients living with HIV.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is proud to announce its commitment to becoming an HIV Confident NHS Trust, reaffirming its dedication to promoting an inclusive and stigma-free environment for people living with HIV, whether as employees or patients.

HIV Confident is a partnership between National AIDS Trust, aidsmap and Positively UK supported by Fast Track Cities London.

As one of the largest HIV treatment centres in Europe caring for almost 12,000 people with HIV, the Trust is committed to ensuring that individuals living with HIV feel supported and respected at every part of their care journey.

This initiative, which the Trust has signed up to aligning with World AIDS Day on 1 December, underscores a broader mission to provide equitable and compassionate care, while also supporting a culture of respect and understanding.

Roger Chinn, Chief Medical Officer at the Trust said: “Our Trust has a rich history of HIV care, making us a leader in this field within the NHS and a trusted provider of services to individuals living with HIV. We are internationally renowned, with a legacy of pioneering treatments, patient-centred care, and ground-breaking research. Becoming a HIV-confident organisation reflects our commitment to providing exceptional care and challenging the stigma surrounding HIV.”

Ruth Byrne, HIV Consultant said: “We believe in creating an environment where every individual feels empowered and supported in managing their health. By encouraging open conversations and ensuring accessible care, we are committed to breaking down stigma and advancing inclusive healthcare practices that enable those living with HIV to thrive with confidence.”
