General medicine (children)
What we do
Our general medical service is provided by a team of consultants with expertise in general paediatrics, supported by clinicians with specialist paediatric interests and highly skilled allied health professionals. We care for children as both inpatients and outpatients—however, we have a strong focus on helping children maintain a normal family life and reducing the length of time they spend in hospital.
At Chelsea and Westminster we provide:
- An 8-bed High Dependency Unit offering non-invasive ventilation
- Care for children in our four inpatient wards (including one ward dedicated to adolescents)
- A children’s ambulatory care clinic for intravenous antibiotics, dressing changes and vaccinations for children with allergies
- A dedicated children’s outpatient clinic where children with any medical problems are seen
At West Middlesex we provide:
- Starlight Ward, our 20-bed inpatient unit which takes on HDU patients
- A children’s short stay, 6-bed unit for patients who need to stay in hospital for 24 hours or less
- Sunshine Day Case Unit which holds surgeries, jaundice clinics, ambulatory care and blood transfusions
- Outpatient clinic
