John Hunter Clinic (JHC)

John Hunter Clinic (JHC) is a Sexual Health Clinic, based next to Chelsea and Westminster NHS Hospital, offering sexual health and contraception services.

Introduction

We are open for a range of on-the-day booked sexual health appointments and specialist services. Please note there are no walk-in appointments presently.If you need PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) or emergency contraception please call 020 3315 4040 and we will always see you on the same day.

You can currently use our online booking service for PrEP appointments, General Contraception face to face and telephone appointments and to directly book a contraceptive Implant or IUD appointment.

You can also book an online appointment with a  John Hunter Clinic Nurse  if you have received a positive test result for Gonorrhoea or Chlamydia and need treatment or if you have been in contact with Gonorrhoea or Chlamydia and have no symptoms.

Please note we are unable to treat you for any other infections at this appointment or if you have symptoms - call 020 3315 4040 to book an appointment.

If you feel that you need to be seen face to face please call our sexual health telephone line on 020 3315 4040 (Mon–Fri, 8:30am–4:30pm).

Our team will discuss your symptoms with you over the telephone and book you the appropriate attend face-to-face or telephone appointment.

Please only attend John Hunter Clinic if you have been given an appointment in clinic.

If you have been to us before it is helpful if you email us to know your clinic number and if not please provide us with your name, date of birth and mobile number. Please note this email is not for routine clinical enquiries or to access your results.

If you need HIV post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) outside our opening hours please go to your nearest A&E.

Young people are always welcome during the clinic opening hours, and we always endeavour to facilitate urgent appointments for anyone under the age of 16.

    Please note that we also operate a Saturday service twice a month 10am-4pm.

    Emergency contraception

    Emergency contraception can be used to help reduce the risk of pregnancy after unprotected sex, although it must be used within 5 days. Pharmacies offer Emergency contraception. 

    If you are over the age of 16, you may access emergency and regular contraception for free using the following services:

    Sexual Health London—free home STI testing kit


    Sexual Health London is an online sexual health service. Just register and complete the online consultation. If the service is right for you, a free kit will be posted out so you can collect your samples and return them for testing. The results will be available in a few days.

    PrEP at JHC

    You can get free NHS PrEP if any of these apply to you:

    • Men who have sex with men who have had unprotected anal sex in the last six months that’s going to continue
    • Transwomen who have had unprotected anal sex in the last six months that’s going to continue
    • Anyone having unprotected sex with an HIV-positive partner who is not on treatment and who has not had undetectable levels of virus in their blood for more than 6 months
    • If you feel you need PrEP for any reason or want advice and information and are buying it online—come in and talk to us about your options
