Endocrinology
What we do
We provide a comprehensive range of general and specialist endocrine services across both hospitals. Although the services are arranged slightly differently at both sites, both work closely with other service areas across the hospital to deliver integrated care for patients with hormone and hormone-associated disorders.
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital
We provide specialist clinics for lipids (cholesterol), hypertension (high blood pressure), obesity, and preconception. As well as for pituitary, adrenal and metabolic bone diseases. We also deal with thyroid disorders, including thyroid cancer (joint with The Royal Marsden Hospital) and other tumours relating to endocrine problems. Investigations are performed in the Medical Day Unit and we have weekly team meetings to review the results and develop plans for each individual patient. We also have a full range of endocrine imaging services on site including CT, MRI and nuclear medicine, and meet regularly with our radiology colleagues.
West Middlesex University Hospital
We run a Medical Day Unit for investigating endocrine diseases, alongside our state of the art ultrasound, CT and MRI scanners for more detailed diagnosis. We also provide inpatient support to other teams to help manage inpatients with endocrine problems. We are part of the acute medical on-call rota to help provide emergency support wherever needed and have strong links with endocrine surgeons and tertiary centres at Hammersmith, Charing Cross and St George’s hospitals.
