Facial lipoatrophy service

What we do

We are the Pan-London Facial Lipoatrophy (FLA) Service. The Facial Lipoatrophy Service provides non-surgical treatment for moderate to severe facial lipoatrophy for people living with HIV.

The treatment is delivered by deep dermal injections of poly-L-lactic acid (New-Fill®) directly into the face. This helps to correct HIV related lipoatrophy and aims to restore facial appearance.

The Facial Lipoatrophy Service is centralised and managed by the Chelsea and Westminster HIV Services. Patients affected by moderate to severe HIV related facial lipoatrophy, attending a London HIV Clinic, are eligible for referral for New-Fill® treatments. Patients can be referred by a clinician within their HIV clinic.

It is important for us to know about your medical history accurately. Prior to providing you with an appointment we will invite you to complete a pre-treatment questionnaire. We will ask you to respond to us within 3 weeks (21 days). If we do not hear from you within this period, we may not be able to proceed with your treatment at the Facial Lipoatrophy Service.

You will receive a course of 4 treatment sessions of New-Fill™ treatment. The clinician delivering your treatment will assess and advise you on the frequency of your sessions.

On completion of treatment, it is advisable that a period of up to 24 months pass before you access further treatment. This will require a new referral from your clinician.
