Infection prevention and control
Information about infection prevention and control including MRSA and Clostridium difficile targets, norovirus and national cleanliness standards.
Infection prevention and control are top priorities at our hospitals to keep patients safe. We’ve achieved great results in meeting our targets for preventing infections like MRSA and Clostridium difficile, and we consistently perform well against national cleanliness standards. We take this very seriously, especially during winter when norovirus is more common.
Preventing the spread of norovirus
Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that usually causes mild symptoms like diarrhoea and vomiting, which often go away within 72 hours. However, in hospitals, it can spread quickly through contact or through the air if someone is vomiting.
- Stay home if you’re unwell, especially if you have symptoms of cold, flu, diarrhoea, or vomiting
- You must be symptom-free for 48 hours before visiting
- Wash your hands with soap and water, followed by hand sanitiser, when entering or leaving any clinical area
Every hospital staff member is committed to maintaining high standards of infection control to protect our patients.
