Macmillan Cancer Support Worker (CW)

Macmillan Cancer Support Workers are part of the cancer care team. They work alongside Clinical Nurse Specialists, Consultants and other health professionals to help give you, your family and carers the support you need.

The role of a Macmillan Cancer Support Worker

Your Macmillan Cancer Support Worker can work with you to actively identify any concerns or worries you may have. These can be of a physical, emotional, financial, practical, social and/or spiritual nature. They can support you to address any concerns you have by providing tailored information and signposting to local and national support services.

Your Macmillan Cancer Support Worker’s focus is on you as a whole, not just your illness. They understand that getting the right help and knowing what support is available is crucial in making things easier for you. Your Macmillan Cancer Support Worker will therefore make contact with you at various points in your cancer care pathway to check-in to see how you are and to offer support. Macmillan Cancer Support Workers are not medically qualified and so they are unable to give medical advice. Instead, they can liaise with the relevant teams on your behalf and can support and help with all non-medical needs.
