Diazepam

This information will explain what you need to know about taking it.

What is Diazepam?
Diazepam is a type of medication called a Benzodiazepine. Benzodiazepines act to slow down the signals in the nervous system.
They are used to treat muscle spasm, anxiety and seizures.
How often should I take it?
You should take 2mg up to three times a day as needed for no more than 3 days.
Taking this medication for longer can lead to addiction and make it hard to stop taking it.
What are the side effects?
The main side effects reported are feeling dizzy, tired and finding it hard to walk.
Can I take other medication?
You should avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking diazepam.
Can I drive?
It is illegal to drive in England and Wales if you have legal medications in your body that make you unfit to drive. If you follow the instructions given to you by a doctor and your ability to drive is not impaired then you can drive.
What else should I be aware of?
If you develop difficulty breathing, throat swelling or a rash you should seek urgent medical attention.
